Happy International Day of Nowruz

The United Nations officially recognized the "International Day of Nowruz" in 2010.

Nowruz (Persian: نوروز "New Day") is rooted in the Iranian / Persian New Year - 11th Century CE, a holy day for Zoroastrians, which is celebrated worldwide by various ethno-linguistic groups & by diverse communities for over 7,000 years. Nowruz is the day of the vernal equinox, and marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

3.19.2020 is the earliest Vernal (Spring) Equinox that will be happen in 124 years.

Vernal means “new” and “fresh,” and equinox in Latin means equal night. Basically, the vernal equinox points the turning point once light of day begins to win out over dark of night.

The moment calculated exactly every year when the Sun crosses the celestial equator and equalizes night and day. Families & Loved-ones gather together to observe and celebrate the rituals around the Haft-sin table and await the exact moment of the equinox to celebrate the New Year.

1. Sabzeh(سبزه) wheat, barley or lentil sprouts growing in a dish - symbolizing rebirth
2. Samanu (سمنو)- a sweet pudding made from wheat germ - symbolizing affluence 
3. Senjed (سنجد)- the dried fruit of the oleaster tree - symbolizing love 
4. Sir (سیر)- garlic - symbolizing medicine 
5. Sib (سیب)- apples - symbolizing beauty and health 
6. Somaq (سماق)- sumac berries - symbolizing (the color of) sunrise 
7. Serkeh (سرکه)- vinegar - symbolizing age and patience
